Residents, businesses and community organisations gathered at The Peddler last week for Pioneer Park's first community engagement event.
The event gave people the opportunity to meet the project team, learn more about the proposals, and help shape the development's future.
During the session, attendees discussed a wide range of topics, including future employment opportunities, skills, transport and connectivity, environmental considerations, community facilities, placemaking, and how Pioneer Park can deliver long-term benefits for West Cumbria.
We’re here to ensure local people are involved in shaping the future of the project from the outset.
Michael Pemberton, Chief Executive of BEC, said: "It was fantastic to see so many people take the time to come along, ask questions and share their views. Pioneer Park represents a significant opportunity for West Cumbria, and it's important that local communities are part of that journey from the very beginning.
"We received a wide range of valuable feedback, from thoughts on transport and infrastructure through to skills, employment opportunities and how the development can create lasting benefits for local people. Those conversations will play an important role as the masterplan continues to evolve.
"Community engagement isn't a one-off exercise. We're committed to making it as easy as possible for people to get involved over the coming months."
Our team will continue its engagement programme throughout the summer, with the next opportunity to meet the team at Gosforth Show on Friday 15 August, where a dedicated Pioneer Park marquee will provide visitors with the chance to find out more about the proposals, speak directly with members of the project team and share their ideas.
Alongside Gosforth Show, we will also be attending a series of parish council meetings in communities close to the proposed site.
These sessions will provide a further opportunity for residents, councillors and local stakeholders to ask questions, understand more about the project and ensure their views are heard.
