This week has been an important week for Pioneer Park in Manchester, with momentum continuing to build nationally.

At the start of the week, Michael and Iain attended the NDA Stakeholder Summit, joining representatives from government, industry and the wider nuclear sector.

It was very encouraging to hear Lee McDonough, Director General at DESNZ, reference Pioneer Park several times during her keynote at the summit, highlighting the project’s growing profile at the heart of government.

As a key partner in Pioneer Park, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has already committed £1 million to support the masterplan, helping turn the vision for the site into a deliverable proposition.

Their involvement is critical to ensuring the development builds on West Cumbria’s nuclear expertise, supports Sellafield Ltd's ongoing decommissioning mission and creates lasting economic opportunities for our communities, making the Stakeholder Summit an important opportunity to strengthen that partnership.

Yesterday, Michael also took to the stage at Place North West’s Energy & Power Conference at Bridgewater Hall, sharing the Pioneer Park vision with developers, investors and leaders from across the energy industry.

Both events provided valuable opportunities to strengthen existing relationships, raise the project’s national profile and engage with organisations that could play an important role in its future.

Michael Pemberton, Chief Executive of BEC, said: “There’s a real sense of momentum building around Pioneer Park. We’ve had some excellent conversations in Manchester this week, and it’s encouraging to see the project being discussed at this level.

“Cumbria already has the skills, expertise and supply chain that have supported the UK’s nuclear industry for generations. Pioneer Park builds on those strengths to attract major investment, support new industries, and create opportunities for our communities.

“With the masterplan now nearing completion, our focus is increasingly turning to the partnerships and investment needed to take this nationally significant development forward.”

As we approach the completion of the masterplan, engagement with government, industry, investors and local communities will become even more important.

This week marked another important step in raising Pioneer Park’s profile, strengthening relationships, and opening further conversations about investment and delivery.
